Panettone Layered Desserts

Trifle style layered desserts made in glasses using panettone, custard and cherries

If you’re looking to get creative with panettone leftovers (or just fancy a new recipe for your Christmas table), these mini-trifle style desserts are divine.

Prep time: 30 minutes

Cook time: 2 hours (setting time)

Serves 4

Special Equipment: 4 x 250ml glasses or jars

Ingredients

  • 2 large slices panettone, 1.5cm thick (or enough to cut 8 x 5cm rounds)
  • 600ml thick Vanilla custard
  • 500g fresh cherries, pitted and sliced into quarters
  • 100g dark chocolate, grated

METHOD

  1. Use a round cutter or round glass that is slightly smaller than your serving glass (approx 5cm in diameter) to cut 8 circles of panettone.
  2. To assemble the desserts, add a layer of custard to the base of each glass, followed by some cherries and grated chocolate and then one slice of panettone. Repeat once and then finish off with a layer of custard topped with cherries and grated chocolate.
  3. Place in the fridge to set for a few hours before serving.

NOTE:

You can add a splash of a fruit liqueur like Chambord to the panettone layers for an extra flavour burst and more of a trifle texture.
