Halloween Snack Platter

Candy Eye Ingredients

  • 60g icing sugar

  • 8-10g dairy-free milk or water

  • ½ teaspoon activated charcoal powder

Apple Monster Ingredients

  • 1 green and 1 red apple, core removed and cut into quarters

  • ¼ cup smooth peanut butter, or nut/seed butter of choice

  • 1-2 strawberries, sliced

  • Pine nuts, slivered almonds, sunflower seeds or pumpkin seeds

Banana Ghost Ingredients

  • 2 bananas, peeled

  • Melted chocolate mixed with a tiny amount of coconut oil

Strawberry Mummies Ingredients

  • Handful of fresh strawberries

  • Melted white chocolate mixed with a tiny amount of coconut oil

Other Spooky Fruit Ingredients

  • Handful of fresh blueberries

  • Handful of green or red grapes, halved
  • 2-4 mangoes cheeks, cut in a criss cross pattern
  • 2-4 mandarins, peeled
  • 2-4 x 6 cm celery stalks

Candy Eye Method:

  1. Add the icing sugar and milk to a small bowl and mix until combined. It

  2. should form a thick paste that flattens out slightly when dropped.

  3. On a piece of baking paper, pipe the icing into about 30-40 circles, around 8-10mm wide.

  4. Remove the remaining icing from the bag and mix in the charcoal powder.

  5. Using a piping bag with a very small tip, pipe the black icing into the middle of each of the circles.

  6. Let the eyes dry uncovered at room temperature for 1-2 days, or until firm.

Apple Monster Method:

  1. Cut a wedge out of each apple quarter to create the monster ‘mouths’.

  2. Spread 1-2 teaspoons of peanut butter on the areas that you just cut out.

  3. Place a strawberry slice in the lower half of the mouths.

  4. Press the pine nuts into the upper half of the mouths to resemble ‘teeth’. If the pine nuts don’t stick, use a toothpick to create indents in the apple for the pine nuts. Don’t worry about being neat – the monsters are meant to look scary!

  5. Arrange the candy eyes on the apple skin. You may need to use the peanut butter to ‘glue’ the eyes on.

Banana Ghost Method:

  1. Cut the bananas in half. Use a knife to cut out a zig-zag on the cut side of the bananas.

  2. Arrange the candy eyes on the bananas, using a little peanut butter as ‘glue’.

  3. Use a small spoon and the melted chocolate to draw long ‘mouths’ on the bananas.

Strawberry Mummies Method:

  1. Drizzle the white chocolate across the strawberries.

  2. Stick the candy eyes on the strawberries. You may need to use some melted white chocolate as ‘glue’.

Other Spooky Fruit Method:

  1. Stick the candy eyes on the blueberries, grapes and mango cheeks.

  2. Insert the celery sticks in the centre of the mandarins.
