Pick of the Week - Black Sapphire Grapes

“Coming out of the Sunraysia region Sapphire Grapes are my pick of the week.

Black Sapphire grapes are unlike any of our other grape varieties, they are a naturally larger grape with an elongated tubular shape. A beautiful deep dark purple colour they are uniquely sweet with a flavour unlike any other grape we sell.”

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“This week, we are promoting broccoli in stores this week.  At this time of year broccoli comes from Tasmania, Victoria, and Queensland. The quality and value are on point.

1kg carrots from Tasmania are also great value this week. We are in the peak of season for Tasmanian carrots so be sure to throw a bag in your shopping basket this week.

After the recent rain events in Queensland, we have a flush of Kumera, mainly imperfects in the markets this week. The Kumera is on the larger side due to the inability to access the flooded paddocks, however the actual quality of the Kumera is fantastic.

Other notable mentions this week in veg include Brussels sprouts, Silverbeet and shallots.

Looking forward all herb lines are looking to be well supplied for the easter period.”

In Fruit

“Gold kiwi is back in all stores from this week.

Imperial mandarins’ season has commenced. Coming from Gayndah and Mundubbera in Queensland the season is its early weeks. Quality and price will improve over the coming weeks. Word of warning please be aware on the imitation Imperial mandarins some of our competitors are selling- they will disappoint.

Pomegranates are in reasonable supply for Jewish Passover and Easter festive period. Look for the value in our imperfect range of pomegranates. Horseradish is also available.

Lemons are well supplied this week and will be for the Easter period.

Papaya and Topless Pineapples from Far North Queensland are in better supply this week with some stores on promotion.

Royal Gala apples are still the pick in apples this week with the new season crops well underway. Kanzi apples are in all stores and new season Bravo apples will be in stores this week. Look for new season Pink Ladies’ apples in the next week or so.

Western Australia Flavour Fall plums are in all stores this week. They are the last of the freshly picked stone fruit and are a magnificent eating plum.

Shepard avocados are excellent eating and are in the peak of season. Volumes will remain steady over the next few weeks.”
