Pick of the Week - Western Australian Avocados

pick of the week western Australian avocados
This week I would like to recommend our Western Australian avocados as the only avocado to buy. We have been buying a small amount of New Zealand fruit in the last month when we have been caught short on our WA fruit, and have been disappointed every time. The Aussie fruit eats and keeps far better. Not surprisingly, therefore it is dearer to buy than the somewhat inferior NZ fruit. Most large retailers from both a price and continuity of supply perspective have to stock both. We are not going to any longer, for us now we will be stocking this fruit only, with the exception of the 2 or 3 weeks around Christmas when we will offer an alternative, the big round Reed avocados which are also fantastic to eat. The market is very tight on what has become a staple fruit and we would like to continue giving our customers the best fruit only and that’s the Western Australian product.

HOW TO PICK
Unripe Hass avocados have green skin and feel firm. If you’re looking for a ripe avocado, look for those with almost black skin which give slightly when gently pressed on the top end.

HOW TO STORE
Store in the fruit bowl until ripe. Once ripe, store in the fridge. Eat and room temperature.
