Shallots are a wonderful vegetable that add flavour to many dishes. Their popularity has never waned in the fifty years I have been in the business. They are rarely available at our special HFM price this week. High in vitamin C and at this price, you can put a bunch away for next week too!
HOW TO PICK
The upper end of the scallion should be dark green with no sign of yellowing. They should be straight and crisp; curled, soft shoots are a sign of age.
HOW TO STORE
Preventing moisture loss is the key to storing scallions. Wrap them in damp paper towels or reusable plastic bags to keep them fresh and crisp.
