Pick of the Week - New Season Aussie Lemons

This time of the year we start new season lemons from Queensland, no longer requiring the imported fruit that we rely on in mid summer to early Autumn. Normally we start in the far North in the Mareeba Tablelands from early to mid  April, and then we move down to the Gayndah region in central Queensland where those beautiful Imperial mandarins come from too, starting in a couple of weeks.

Floods in Mareeba meant the crop from there is running late and is now clashing with the central Queensland fruit, so we now have an oversupply and prices are falling which is very unusual at Easter which is a period of very high demand. So however you buy your lemons - our premium loose fruit, the smaller netted fruit or our wonderful imperfect offer - it will be far cheaper than last week. Fabulous timing for an Easter seafood feast!

HOW TO PICK
Choose plump, bright lemons that are heavy for their size.

HOW TO STORE
Store at room temperature for one week, or in the fridge for up to two weeks.
