I normally advise peaches for January and then nectarines for February. This season is a little different and we have excellent quality of both fruits this week. In both fruits, it is the yellow varieties that seem to be most plentiful and for this particular week, my pick is the yellow nectarines over the peaches. We really are spoilt for choice and now we are having proper summer weather to enjoy our fabulous stone fruit.
HOW TO PICK
Pick fruit that is fragrant, plump and richly coloured with smooth, glossy skin. The fruit should give slightly when gently pressed.
HOW TO STORE
Store at room temperature until ripe, which will usually take a few days. Never refrigerate until fully ripe. Once ripe, the fruit will keep in the fridge for a few days.
