Pick of the Week - Northern Territory Kensington Pride Mangoes

My pick for the week is definitely Northern Territory Kensington Pride mangoes. To me, these KPs are the best eating mango of the year. It has been a very good season so far and we have large quantities of fruit now coming from Darwin and surrounding areas, then towards the end of next week a gap before we commence the Katherine fruit - arguably the best fruit of the year. So look forward to cheap prices, even our famous $20 trays will be available this week. That price point hasn’t changed in 20 years, regardless of inflation. There are other mangoes that look better than KPs but to me, these are what we love to eat. It’s a soft mango with golden flesh and they will be in full swing from now through to mid-January. They then continue until late March but in far lesser quantities.

HOW TO PICK
Use your nose - look for a fragrant tropical fruity aroma. Ripe mangoes should have a full colour and will give slightly to the touch. Avoid very soft or bruised fruit.

HOW TO STORE
Unripe mangoes should be stored out of direct sun at room temperature for a few days until ripe. Once ripe, a mango should last in your fruit bowl for a few days. Never refrigerate unripe mangoes and don't store them in plastic bags as they need to breathe.
