After a scary start to our cherry season, they are now fantastic! Big, plump, juicy cherries at prices that suit every pocket. Young is having, at last, a fabulous season and now Victoria has really come good also. Throw in a few early varieties from Tasmania and we have the best Cherry Christmas since 2009. We have smaller, cheaper fruit in punnets, fabulous fruit on our stacks loose and a range of 1 and 2 kg cases that includes the best fruit in the country.
To me, Lapins are probably the most consistent variety of this fruit available and wherever they are from, they are good. But this is a great year for Young, so that’s what I will be taking home. So don’t miss out, buy a case for Christmas - they will hold up over the holiday break. It’s just the most popular fruit for Christmas if the season is right and this one certainly is.
HOW TO PICK
Choose plump, glossy cherries with bright green stems. Avoid soft, dull or bruised fruit.
HOW TO STORE
Keeping the fruit cool and dry is the secret to preserving its freshness, quality and shelf life. Store in the fridge and only rinse when ready to eat.
