Pick of the Week - Papaya

My pick of the week this week is papaya. We have more papaya than I can ever remember hitting the market at a time when supply would traditionally slow up not increase. So papaya will be cheap ,so cheap in fact that we will have whole boxes for sale at low prices, might be too many for most but you could share a box with someone and that will be the bargain of the week.

Papaya has sweet dark-orange flesh, not to be confused with Pawpaw, which is larger with yellow flesh. Juicy and sweet they are a excellent source of vitamin A & C and a good source of beta carotene.

HOW TO PICK
Look for firm, golden coloured papaya with a sweet tropical aroma. Skin should be free of soft spots. If cut, choose pawpaw with vibrant-coloured flesh.

HOW TO STORE
Store at room temperature till it yields to gentle pressure. Once ripe, store in the fridge for up to three days.
