Dave's Market Update & Pick of the Week - Bagged Red Seedless Grapes - 29 May 2024

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

"A few bargains in winter veg lines this week. Cauliflowers, Broccoli and Broccolini are all top quality and very well supplied. Sydney stores all have very good cup mushrooms on at a very cheap ticket and by this weekend we will have another fantastic basil special."

In Fruit

"The imported cherries look a better proposition this week and should start to fall in price. The G Max avocadoes continue to please. They are far more reliable than the Hass variety. In apples our pink ladies are great value, the imperfect particularly. Oranges are really good less so Mandarins where we are transitioning from QLD to NSW orchards. Gold kiwi are excellent."

Dave's Pick of the Week - "Bagged Red Seedless Grapes"

"Crimson seedless grapes are my pick this week. The crimson seedless variety are picked some weeks later then other grape varieties, meaning they are fresher, crisper and keep longer at this time of year.

Don’t be alarmed if any of our crimsons look paler (almost white) in colour. They are eating fantastically at the moment! They’re low GI, making them a great source of long-lasting energy and a perfect pick-me-up when you’re peckish. Also, a good source of fibre, vitamin C and potassium. Great packed into the kids lunch boxes, in salads or desserts, or as part of a cheese platter.

HOW TO PICK
Choose grapes with a crisp firm flesh. Avoid soft or wrinkled fruit.

HOW TO STORE
Store unwashed grapes in an airtight container or in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge. For longer lasting grapes, wash only just before serving."
