Dave's Market Update
In Veg
"Three perfect vegetables for the weather we have coming this week. Firstly, there is a substantial increase in cauliflower arrivals in the market this week. The quality is superb and they are now half the price of last week. Next our hand picked beans.
These are fantastic quality and considering the substantial costs involved in hand picking (which is a lot of the reason they are a better option than the machine picks we see in the supermarkets) this price is a bargain. and finally, Broccoli also has fallen in price. All fantastic veg for a hearty cooler weather meal.”

In Fruit
“This will be one of the best weeks of the raspberry season. Autumn raspberries are the best! Imperial mandarins have really hit their straps (as they always do in May). We have really good imperfect line in the shops today as well as our premium fruit.
Lots of our customers have been enjoying our premium loose white grapes for the last 5 weeks or so. Sadly these are coming to an end this week. We do have a very good loose red grape, the variety is Jacks Salute, a-bit cheaper than the whites you have been enjoying, definitely worth a try.
Fuyu fruit is at its best and probably as cheap as they will get. All the apples are really good and the old time apple farmers always say Granny Smiths eat well once Anzac Day is past, so if you are a fan look for them in our stores this week. For me it’s still the Ambrosias that are my go to apple"

Dave's Pick of the Week
"There are two main crops of raspberries in Australia, the summer crop which comes before Christmas and the Autumn crop which starts mid-March and ends early April. Outside these dates, Costas have done an unbelievably good job at delivering raspberries 12 months of the year but regardless, the big flush still comes at these two traditional peak periods. A lot of the Autumn varieties are somewhat smaller than the midsummer fruit which is both larger and redder in appearance.
However, I think the Autumn fruit is the best eating of the year. This week and probably the next one or two weeks will be the peak of the year for this berry. They won’t get any cheaper and won’t eat any better than right now. Don’t be overly concerned if the odd berry is slightly leaking, when I first started in this business the older customers would not buy them unless they were in fact leaking as this identified the fruit that was ripest. I don’t mean a mess of liquid in the punnet, just a small bit of moisture. Enjoy them now at their peak.
