Dave's Market Update 29.04.2014

IN FRUIT

At Harris Farm this week we are keen to send all the school kids back with a healthy lunchbox. We have a huge array of wonderful fruit such as apples, bananas, mandarins and grapes in the prime of the season. All are perfect for the lunchtime snack – they’re easy for the kids to eat as they require minimal peeling (if any) and are well priced and delicious. With grapes, by far the freshest picked and best value is to be found in the red seedless variety. Berries are all fairly dear this week and this will be the case for most of May - raspberries are the best value for your berry craving. Sweet topless pineapples that have been poor quality through summer have at last come into season and we will see good numbers and quality going forward.

IN VEGETABLE

We have had a brief influx of great tasting gourmet tomatoes brought on with the warmer weather in Queensland but a cold snap in the growing areas mean this will be quite short lived. Leeks, caulies, broccoli and Brussel sprouts are all good value this week. Washed potatoes that suffered in the heatwave at the end of summer are finally recovering and quality is returning to normal.
