IN FRUIT
Easter and Anzac Day are very close together this year and this leads to disrupted deliveries from our growers and hence there are sometimes supply issues. However, the next few days look good. Red grapes are now far better to eat than the whites which are all coming out of cool storage, whereas the reds are fresh picked and sent to market.
Mandarins are starting to eat well, and the larger fruit especially is worth pursuing. Raspberries are still good and inexpensive however blueberries are not as good as they are between seasons. The end of season southern strawberries only have 1 or at the most 2 days life – don’t buy them to use in 4 or 5 days. There are heaps of good eating Fuyu fruit available this week as the Queensland and southern fruit supply overlaps, look for specials on this line.
For plums now, I would stick to the Flavourfalls, they are the last plum to be picked and will be fresher and eat better than anything else. All the apples and pears are excellent, bananas continue to be cheap and for avocados, stick with the greenskin Shepards not the Hass for the best eating experience.
IN VEGIES
Zucchini is the stand out for value this week. Kumera and imperfect kumera are good and cheap as are Lebanese cucumbers and Brussels sprouts. Not a lot else has changed this week.
