Pick of the Week - White Peaches

"My pick of the week is white peaches. Mid-January is usually when peaches hit their peak but this year, February is really their month. To be truthful, it’s hard to say if the white peaches are any better than the yellows this week, they are both fantastic quality and great eating. That said, for me the white peaches this week are fabulous thanks to their very delicate, fragrant flavour.

In February, nectarines usually outpace peaches and they’re also very good right now. So many fantastic options this week in fruit but for me, the fresh new taste of the white peaches probably can’t be beaten. They don’t get any better than right now, enjoy!"

Dave's Market Update

In Veg

“We are in a fairly difficult situation this week with vegetables as most lines tighten up. However as always, we have found a few lines to special.

Imperfect kumera is very reasonable and good quality. Basil, fennel and broccolini are all well supplied. We will continue to seek out other lines as the week progresses.

In Fruit

The fruit situation is more stable than vegetables. We have an excellent line of white peaches in all stores - I think these are the best eating peach I’ve had this year and they are a great price as well.
Nectarines continue to be fantastic eating as well as are plums, where there are four or five good eating varieties of which Queen Garnets would be my pick.
Plump delicious Tasmanian raspberries are definitely the pick of the berries.  New season fresh dates are now in-store, and we have those small imperfect and very cheap lemons available again, still about one quarter the price of the premium stack fruit.
All grapes are really great eating. The new white varieties are dear but fantastic eating. The smaller berries - red seedless, black muscatel and sultana grapes are still great eating and far less expensive. There really is a good eating grape to suit every budget.
Finally in avocados, we have commenced the new season Gold skins or Shepards in Queensland, I imagine it will be only a week or so before we also have them in Sydney.”
