At Harris Farm, we're all about providing you with the best products available, and our flowers are no exception! Roses provide so much beauty and joy, and we want to help you keep those sparks flying and flowers blooming. These tips will help you care for your flowers and hopefully lead to some beautiful memories of your own.
Roses are red, violets are blue, we love our suppliers and so will you
Where we can, we choose to purchase from local growers, so that they arrive at our stores fresh and undamaged. We're proud to support our local Sydney growers like Hawkesbury Blooms. You won't find fresher flowers unless you decide to become a florist or grow them yourself. Now, let's help you find the perfect bunch for that special someone!
Roses are a Valentine's Day fave, but don't be afraid to spice things up
No two people are the same, just as no two flowers are the same. We have a wide range of high-quality flowers, it all depends on you. Roses are of course a classic, but our in-season Hydrangeas and Dahlias are great for someone less traditional. Selecting a unique bunch that matches their personality and style is the important first step to the perfect bloom they will adore.
Be sure to put your love, sweat, and tears into making the bouquet
Putting together a bouquet can be stressful, but don't get the blues! Follow the colour palette that matches your love and you can't go wrong. Start with a main focal flower, and then build around it. Next, add in a few fillers like greenery, berries, or even small flowers. Don't forget to make sure it looks good from every angle!
If this is all too much trouble or your strapped for time then don't fear... We have amazing bouquets to be purchased in stores that your partner will love.
Don't let your love die, it needs to be cared for
1. Once your roses are home, get them prepared and into water.
2. You may see that the outer petals of your roses may look bruised or damaged. This is intentional! These are called “guard petals”, which growers leave on to protect the inner flower head during packing and transit. To remove the guard petals, gently pinch the base of the petal and pull away from the head.
3. Remove any leaves that may be underwater.
4. Cut about one inch off each stem with a clean sharp knife or scissors. Do not let the newly cut end dry off before transferring it to a clean vase of deep room temperature water.
5. If available, use a floral preservative solution. Using as recommended will provide additional days of vase life.
6. Temperature is key to keeping roses fresh. Display your fresh-cut roses in a cool area out of direct sunlight.
7. Roses are thirsty flowers. It is important to check to see that the vase is full and add a preservative solution often.
Never fear, your love can still be salvaged
A wilted rose may be revived by submerging the entire rose underwater. In 20 to 60 minutes, the rose should have absorbed enough water to replenish itself. While submerged, cut off 1 inch of the stem using a sharp knife or scissors. Follow these tips and tricks and your love will flourish for days!
