I said last week that peaches were January and nectarines followed in February but the season is a bit ahead of itself this year, and so we have extraordinarily good eating large white nectarines in our stores this week. Mostly the Majestic Pearl variety from Cobram in Victoria, they are just a fantastic piece of fruit. The yellows are very good also but there is just not quite as many of them around this week. Weather permitting, this high-quality selection of excellent eating peaches and nectarines will continue over the next few weeks.
HOW TO PICK
Pick fruit that is fragrant, plump and richly coloured with smooth, glossy skin. The fruit should give slightly when gently pressed.
HOW TO STORE
Store at room temperature until ripe, which will usually take a few days. Never refrigerate until fully ripe. Once ripe, the fruit will keep in the fridge for a few days.
