My pick of the week is white peaches. Mid-January is usually when peaches hit their peak. But this year February is really their month. To be truthful, it’s hard to say if the white peaches are any better than the yellows this week, they are both fantastic quality and great eating. That said, for me the white peaches this week are fabulous thanks to their very delicate, fragrant flavour. In February nectarines usually outpace peaches, and they’re also very good right now. So many fantastic options this week in fruit but for me the fresh new taste of the white peaches probably can’t be beaten. They don’t get any better than right now, enjoy!
HOW TO PICK
Look for fruit that's smooth and unblemished. If you’re looking for one to eat right away, ripe fruit will give a bit when pressed gently. Because they bruise easily, peaches should be handled with care, especially when ripe.
HOW TO STORE
Store peaches at room temperature until ripe, this usually takes a few days. Storing ripe stone fruit in the crisper drawer will prolong its eating life - it should keep for up to a week when refrigerated.
