Pick of the Week - Broccoli

Broccoli Pick of the Week

Steady supplies of good quality broccoli have been flowing into the market over the past few days. As a result the price is almost half of what is was this time last week, and is the stand out this week. The broccoli is coming in from Victoria, Queensland and Griffith in the NSW Riverina. My favourite way to enjoy broccoli with a touch of lemon and garlic. Very simple. Just steam the broccoli then toss it in a special lemon garlic sauce. I like to eat it hot with a meal or cold as a salad the next day.

HOW TO PICK
Look for broccoli with bright green heads. Prefer compact clusters of the broccoli florets. The more open the florets, the older and closer to flowering the florets are. Choose firm, strong stems and stalks. Avoid broccoli that appear to have woody stems or those with yellow florets.

HOW TO STORE
Store broccoli in the refrigerator and keep it dry. Store in a vented plastic bag and use within 5 days, or earlier if you notice any wilting commencing.
