My pick this week just has to be KP mangoes again. They are looking and eating even better than last week. Possibly marginally cheaper than last week but just fantastic flavour. They and the premium blueberries (a bit dearer this week) are fabulous. The smaller less sweet supermarket blueberries are still extra cheap but for the extra dollar why not buy the best ones.
HOW TO PICK
KP's: use your nose - look for a fragrant tropical fruity aroma. Ripe mangoes should have a full colour and will give slightly to the touch. Avoid very soft or bruised fruit.
Blues: pick firm, plump berries that have a natural, light blue-silver blush on the skin. Avoid excessively soft or withered berries.
HOW TO STORE
KP's: Unripe mangoes should be stored out of direct sunlight at room temperatures for a few days until ripe. Once ripe, a mango should last in your fruit bowl for at least two to three days. Never refrigerate unripe mangoes and do not store them in plastic bags.
Blues: Don't wash berries until right before eating as washing will remove the bloom that protects the berries' skin. Place unwashed blueberries in a single layer on paper towel in a covered container and refrigerate. Use within 3 days.
