This week we have a mixture of Tasmanian and South Australian Spanish onions from the rich river flats of South Australia. With prices that are only seen a handful of times a year, Spanish (or red onions) are a must for this week’s shopping list.
This is one of those infrequent weeks where Spanish onions are the cheapest onion in the store. The quality is excellent and they will store well.
HOW TO PICK
Choose firm, well-shaped onions with small necks and dry, papery skin. Avoid spongy or sprouting onions with uneven or patchy skin colouring.
HOW TO STORE
Onions will keep for a long time if you store them in a cool, dry, dark place.
