Dave's Pick of the Week - Cherries

My pick this week is cherries. I haven't really promoted them this season, as most of the stock was of very poor quality. At this stage of the season we obtain much of our fruit from Tasmania, some later areas around Orange in NSW and the higher altitude orchards in Victoria. The rain has been fairly moderate in these areas and there are now some top quality cherries available. I would normally be competing with the exporters for the large sized premium fruit, however far less so this year. The reason has nothing to do with trade sanctions, but that it's extremely difficult to obtain space on the planes heading to our markets in Asia. This week and early next week will be the best cherries of the year; fantastically priced and for sale in all our stores. If there is ever a good time to buy a one or two kg case, then it's right now!
