Pick of the Week - Australian Pomegranate

Australian Pomegranates have arrived in stores in a big way this week. The edible parts of a pomegranate are the juicy red arils contained within the bitter white pith. The crunchy seeds inside the ruby-red flesh are full of dietary fibre and vitamin C, pomegranates also contain a range of valuable anti-oxidants. Just half a pomegranate can give you up to 40 per cent of your daily recommended intake of vitamin C and at least 10 per cent of your adequate daily intake of heart-friendly potassium can come from half a pomegranate.

How to Pick

When buying, choose fruit that feels heavy - it will be full of juice seeds.

How to Store

Whole pomegranates stay fresh in the fridge for up to 2 months, or in a cool, dark place for 1 month.
