Harris Farm Market’s farmer friend Emmanuel Xerri is delighted people have cottoned on to how delicious and nutritious kale is.
“Its a ‘superfood’ you know, it’s chock full of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants,” he says.
Emmanuel also loves the new at home ‘green’ juicing trend.
“I think juicing has really grown the market for us - I can’t believe just how popular kale has become. We’ve gone from sending minimal quantities of kale, to double, even tripling the amount we produce! Nowadays we send over 4000 bunches a week to Harris Farm”.
“It’s year round production to provide a consistent supply of kale. Its a hardy plant that grows in a similar way to silverbeet, which is the other leafy bunch veg we grow and supply to Harris Farm. Kale, like silverbeet, is picked in the afternoon and on store shelves the next morning.”
Emmanuel Xerri and his family are third generation Sydney Basin farmers.
