Dave's Market Update
In Veg
"Two fantastic winter veg specials this week. Broccoli which has halved in price over 8 or 9 days as has leeks. Leeks are fantastic right now however as the spring weather kicks in our vegetable options change.
This week we will start changing over to Australian asparagus, fresh everyday instead of the lesser imported product which has been the only option. Next week will see broad beans and all the fabulous spring veg in the stores.
NSW stores have a bargain on green Shanghai buk choy. And celery has come back in price as well. Again it is hard to go past our imperfect gourmet tomato offer for fantastic value. Again just around the corner we will have volumes of delicious snacking tomatoes to feast on."

In Fruit
"Undoubtedly the exciting news for the week in fruit and veg is the arrival of excellent quality KP mangoes. Mangoes have been in the market for a month or so however to date they have been immature, and we resisted ranging them in our stores. We now have some really good eating and not too dear fruit in store.
Apples and citrus are all good value as they have been. Avocadoes continue to be less plentiful and berries are recovering from rain up north. There are still good berries available however shelf life is not great. Bring on the mangoes!"

Dave's Pick of the Week - Leeks
"My pick this week are leeks. Part of the onion and garlic family, they are grown in Victoria and to a lesser extent the Sydney basin.
Great in casseroles and soups, or as a standalone veg - I love them in white sauce! High in vitamin C and fibre, they are a really healthy veg and they are at their best now.
By September, they start to go to seed, so enjoy them now; they are well priced and at their absolute best!"
HOW TO PICK
Choose leeks with dark green leaves on top and a bright white bulb and base.
HOW TO STORE
Trim the tops and store in a sealed plastic bag in the drawer of your refrigerator for up to one week.
