Dave's Market Update
In Veg
“The first few weeks in the market can often be tricky with many producers downing tools for the festive period. This week, however, marks the start of returning to normality. The highlights in veg include broccolini, fennel, shallots, Green Shanghai, basil and Lebanese cucumbers are all good value.
This is the time of the year we see the start of the Sydney basin crops which are slowly making their way to market. Sydney Basin or "local" imperfect eggplant in back in all stores this week and good value.

In Fruit
“Limes are excellent value this week and on promotion in all stores. Coming from Far North Queensland, we are experiencing a flush of fruit we only experience a handful of occasions during the year. Lychees are eating great and still around in good numbers; however, the season tends to wind up quickly as we get to the near the end of January so be sure to make the most of this fantastic eating fruit.
Reed avocados are in all stores and eating special. Coming from South Australia and Victoria, the season is looking reasonable. The Reed season is a relatively short one so make the most of the outstanding eating avocado.
Honey Gold mangoes are on promotion in all stores this week with the crop approaching the peak of season. The pick in the mango category this week, we are selling extra-large Honey Gold mangoes and a keen retail price.
The cherry season is in the home stretch. In January, we source most of our fruit out of Tasmania. The climate in Tasmania is conducive to producing some of the best quality cherries in the country. Tasmanian cherries will be on an excellent promotional price this weekend so be sure to look out for it.
Peaches and nectarines are both eating well and in excellent supply. I would suggest that the peaches are eating marginally better the nectarines this week.
Seedless melon is in good supply this week. Most of the fruit is coming from central Queensland and eating amazing.”

Dave's Pick of the Week - Honey Gold Mangoes
“January and February are traditionally excellent months for Honey Gold mangoes. This year is no different with an abundance of good eating fruit coming from the Tablelands and Bowen in far north Queensland. The dry winter and spring mean the fruit is beautiful to eat.
This week we are running large fruit which is excellent value for money.”
