Dave's Market Update
In Veg
“This week, we are promoting loose corn in all stores. The corn coming from Bowen in far north Queensland is in the peak of the season with quality and price both fantastic.
Asparagus is also in the peak of season with volumes showing no signs of easing. Retailing in all stores for $1 or less, look for a ridiculous promotion this weekend in stores!
New season Truss tomatoes are still the pick in the category with price and quality fantastic.
Good weather conditions have seen a significant increase in the number of Lebanese cucumbers in the markets. Primarily from the Sydney basin and all new season, these cucumbers are retailing at a hot price in all stores in this week.
In other news in the markets, there are excellent value to be enjoyed in Celery, 1kg carrots, Imperfect kumera, imperfect eggplant, Coriander, Continental parsley, Iceberg lettuce, twin pack baby cos, Broad beans, Kale, and Dutch carrots."

In Fruit
"Papaya has been in hibernation for a few months, but it looks like the warmer spring conditions are bringing the crops on with volumes starting to increase.
Bananas are still strong in supply with downward pressure on prices. The quality is improving weekly as we transition from the winter crop and into the spring. We have them on super mid-week special and bananas will remain excellent value in the weeks to come.
This is the time of the year we normally see a few rockmelons in the markets and this year is no different. Good volumes of great eating rockmelons are flowing into the markets from far North Queensland. The value this week is in the smaller fruit which we are promoting and a great price in all stores.
Northern Territory mangoes are off and running again. All stores are well supplied, look for prices to ease over the coming weeks as the seasons swing into overdrive. Kensington pride mangoes are still on the expensive side but look for the value in the imperfect mangoes available in all stores.”

Pick of the Week - Blackberries
“This week, blackberries are arriving at the markets in good volumes. The fruit is from Bundaberg in Queensland and is all new season. The eating quality is exceptional!
With rain causing some disruption in the blueberries growing areas, blackberries are the standout in the berry category this week.”
