Dave's Market Update - 8.4.20

IN FRUIT:
The good news is that lemons and limes, both essential for Easter, are good and inexpensive. Papaya, all grapes, apples and pears are the same. Best of all, avocados are now at their peak; cheap and good! All of our stores have lemon and avocado to fit the budget this week. Papaya continues to be great value.

Not so good news is the heavy rain down South has effected the quality and price of many of the berries and figs. Don’t expect to buy these and keep them for much more than a couple of days. Best of the berries are raspberries this week. For plums, I think its hard to beat our Western Australian Flavorfalls. Easter is traditionally a time for roasting chestnuts and I guess many families are out there wondering what to do over Easter, so why not try a chestnut?

IN VEG:
Plenty of good options for Easter this week! Local Sydney basin leafy greens are now at their best. Lots of great choice with herbs as well. Zucchini, kumara and fennel are all still good value. This week, baby broc, telegraph cucumbers and most tomatoes and snacking toms have eased in price, as well staples like carrots and celery, which continue to please the budget. It will be easy to plan a menu for Easter that does no break the bank!

Happy Easter all and keep safe!
