Looks like a good week in fruit this week. Limes are really cheap, and given where the lemon price is that’s good news! The other significant price drop this week is on our seedless watermelon. Similar to last week, Reed avocadoes, Menindee white seedless grapes and nets of passionfruit all remain very good value and top quality. The peaches especially would be even cheaper if there were enough staff to pack them. Our major stone fruit guys have huge quantities of fruit in their pack houses but no one to actually put them in boxes to send to market.
I loved eating Reed avos last week and there is plenty more of them this week. Some good later variety mangoes get underway this week; the Silky variety especially is very good eating. We hope to have the first of our new season apples in store by the weekend. Keep your eyes peeled for fresh new season Gala apples - they are crisp, crunchy and fantastic to eat. Autumn is on the way!
Unfortunately, problems with too much rain in this category are ongoing. The best news this week is the dramatic fall in broccoli prices; we will be selling this week at around half last weeks price! As is often the case there is similar downward pressure on cauliflowers, though not to the same extent as with broccoli. Truss tomatoes continue to be the best value tomato we have - far cheaper than the gourmet option. Pumpkin continues to be inexpensive and for something a bit different this week we have snake beans. These are well priced and very good quality.
