IN FRUIT
All the buzz at Harris Farm Markets, and the fruit industry as a whole this week is about our wonderful summer fruits that are starting to arrive at the markets this week. Peaches, nectarines and cherries are all now quite good to eat but still very pricey. The product coming back in price the quickest is Northern Territory mangoes. They are a little later then normal this year but at this stage it looks like a fabulous year for this most popular fruit. The traditional favourite Kensington Prides, are not quite ready yet and for the next few days ora week we recommend the TPP mangoes that are ripe and ready to go right now. The good supplies of other lines are a few weeks away yet. Apples continue to be pricey as citrus does also. Berries have started from Victoria and will ease in price over the next few weeks. Seedless watermelon has started to drop in price from recent record highs.
IN VEGETABLE
Other fantastic news this week is the bargains we are seeing in tomatoes. All tomatoes have eased this week. We have great bargains in this category but especially punnets of delicious grape tomatoes and 5kg trays of truss tomatoes. These truss are at a price not seen for years in our industry. Other fabulous specials this week are in broccoli and asparagus. Asparagus at just under $1.00 bunch only happens rarely. Australian garlic is now underway and over the next few weeks most of our garlic will now be local Australian and this will be the case until March. Lots of beetroot are around both loose and in bunches, all types of cucumber and another massive bargain is whole cabbage - which like asparagus, under $1.00. I don't know how long these prices can last.
