IN FRUIT
We are at last seeing the first signs of Spring in our fruit and veg offers this week. Strawberries which were very slow to kick off have come good at last. Great flavour, keeping well and inexpensive just what we are looking for. Those fabulous blood oranges are continuing to satisfy many of our customers. Seedless watermelon which has been very dear is now in full swing from the Northern Territory. Although the cost of freight precludes us having really cheap fruit I think the quality and taste of this melon is second to none. That said the price is around half what it was two weeks ago. There are also some great fruit specials at Harris Farm that really tell me Spring has sprung. Tangellos are a hybrid of the grapefruit and mandarin. Easy to peel, sweet and tasty you won't believe the price we are selling these at this week. Also on special this week we have the eating best priced New Zealand kiwifruit that I have seen this season. Late August and early to mid September is when this fruit is at its peak.
IN VEGETABLE
In vegies first the bad news. We got the first of our new season Australian asparagus last week, however sadly a huge frost has damaged the early shoots and it will take until mid September for the crops to recover. All potatoes are excellent quality, the market is easing for corn, zucchini, broccoli and red capsicums. Leeks and snowpeas both look to be on the shopping list again this week. Another week or two of reasonable temperatures and all or most of our vegetables will reduce in price. So in summary lots of vegies in the ground looking for a few warmer days and prices will fall dramatically.
