Dave's Market Update 09.09.2014

IN FRUIT

The month of September is renown to be peak season for kiwi fruit with eating quality and price both fantastic. On special in all Harris Farm Markets stores this week be sure to put kiwi fruit on the shopping list. Notable mentions in fruit this week is papaya or red paw paw from North Queensland, a wonderfully sweet and really refreshing fruit, it is at a realistic price making it a must try product. Blueberries from the north coast of NSW are still excellent eating and great value this week.

IN VEGETABLE

The onset of spring has caused produce to flow freely into the market. The warmer temperatures are resulting in pristine growing conditions with the majority of products flourishing. Broccoli, brussels sprouts, lettuce, cauliflower, snow peas, cabbages, beans, beetroot, zucchini, rhubarb and red capsicum are all awesome quality and great value. Beans have been expensive for an extended period due to some cold temperatures experienced throughout the winter. This week sees both hand picked beans and machine picked beans really come on and represent great value and excellent quality. Red capsicums from Bowen in North Queensland are at seasons best quality and are great value. Tomatoes have been extremely difficult to procure in recent weeks, but look for this situation to remedy itself in the days coming. Volumes are slowly starting to build up which will place pressure on prices over the next few days. All asparagus at Harris Farm Markets are Australian grown. Regular, baby, and grande asparagus are from Mildura in southern Australia. Not only do we support Australian producers but the Australian asparagus is a far superior product both in flavour and shelf life than the imported Peruvian products our competitors are currently selling.
