IN FRUIT
This week I am going to recommend that our customers move on from Imperial mandarins a great favourite of mine but now past their best. In their place I would recommend you try a later mandarin the Afourer. These were discovered in Morocco and first imported to Australia in the 1990's and are now becoming very popular. Easy to peel and sweet they will probably give a better outcome than Imperials from now on. Most other citrus is also really good, personally I can't go past that blood orange juice to start my day. Granny Smith apples are at their best and well priced this week. Lots of customers asking when are we going to start mangoes as they are about in some stores. We taste them everyday in the markets in our view they are still not right. It looks like a huge mango season coming on.
IN VEGETABLE
As spring gets underway we often have vegetable lines that come from two or three different geographical regions that overlap for a period and this is the case with cauliflowers this week. They have been very dear but suddenly quantities available for sale have really jumped so prices are back. There seems to be plenty of vegie options also with broccoli, lettuce, carrots, most potatoes, onions and snow peas all well supplied and prices either stable or easing a little. One of the best value options we have at Harris Farm this week are medley mix tomatoes at a fantastic price. Different flavours of different tomatoes all in one punnet worth a try.
