IN FRUIT
In fruit all citrus, apples and pears are all really at their peak. All three are eating and keeping well and prices are very reasonable. Berries love the weather they are now getting in the growing areas - nice warm days, cool nights and no rain. Nearly time to farewell Aussie grapes for the year, they have had their day and we will now have a few months of imported product until the new season Australian harvest recommences. I don't think much can beat a Queensland strawberry or a juicy sweet navel orange at this time of the year.
IN VEGETABLE
Winter chill is now upon us and contrary to expectations I talked about last week prices have risen. Broccoli, caulies, corn and beans have all become very short in supply. For value in veg this week you cannot go past our brown onion special. Look for Cathy Harris' French onion soup recipe - it is a cracker, all products available at Harris Farm Markets - the perfect dish for a cold winters day. In pumpkins the old season is by far the best to eat, but it won't keep as long as we have become accustomed to. Potatoes and sweet potatoes are all very good value and quality.
