Dave's Market Update 14.10.2014

IN FRUIT

Blueberries are an absolute favourite of mine. Now available 12 months of the year October is one of the peak periods for taste and quality the other being late January and February. People love bigger fruit but there are times when the small fruit is best, though now from the North Coast of NSW we have very good large fruit. On special this week but in the next few weeks will ease off in supply until Southern NSW crops begin, stock up and enjoy while heavy supplies continue. Strawberries of course continue to be very popular however it is quite difficult at the moment as the Victorian new season fruit is not quite ready and the Queensland and Western Australian fruit are both coming to an end of their season. We do have very limited quantities of local Sydney basin fruit, quite expensive but in my view worth the extra you will pay for these - being sold as premium strawberries. Avocados, bananas, sweet topless pineapples all continue to be very popular with our customers.

IN VEGETABLE

Spring brings new growth to vegetables as well as we transition from winter to Spring and Summer vegetables. Lebanese cucumbers this week at Harris Farm Markets will be half last week's price and a quarter the price of just four weeks ago. What a bargain!! Lots of really great quality celery, beans and broccoli available this week. Fabulous asparagus, rhubarb and cabbages all at very attractive prices round out our vegetable offer. The next week or so will see big quantities of Northern Territory mangoes and the spring crop tomatoes start to drag prices down and satisfy our summer taste buds.
