Dave's Market Update - 18.11.2014

IN FRUIT

It is starting to get really hot and humid up in Queensland and this has bought an enormous increase in the supply of bananas. As stone fruit is now coming down in price so this increased supply of bananas will also reduce the price of this versatile fruit. As a result bananas at Harris Farm will be on average half last weeks price. Enjoy. Mangoes continue to be our most popular line with nearly all our mangoes coming from the Katherine region. We also have great specials on avocados this week and for a change it is the very large fruit that is at a bargain price. Strawberries and Blueberries remain very popular and the cherries get just that much better every week. Seedless watermelons and nectarines are also eating fantastically and well suited to the current weather conditions. Our grapes are now all Australian and we are fast approaching that pre-Christmas cherry rush. You will see blackberries in the shops by this weekend and next week is when we usually see a good drop in raspberry prices. Looks like a good apricot season with lots of good fruit to choose from.

IN VEGETABLE

Hot weather has shortened the supply of some of the more delicate products in vegie lines so some bunch lines have gone up in price. Most vegies are quite well priced and mushrooms in particular are very well supplied and we have a couple of great specials in different varieties of mushrooms. The swiss brown are particularly good to eat for flavour they are my first choice. The other vegie line that is very heavily supplied is snow peas with prices reminiscent of a decade ago - great value this week.
