IN FRUIT
It's back to school next week, so we have picked some all time favourites that suit back to school for this week and weekend. Mandarins and bananas are both just about perfect for the job. Both are eating very well and are very well priced this week. The added bonus is that nature has made both these products just so easy to peel! All apples are fantastic, most of the Pink Ladys are fresh off the tree. As the season changes, we are seeing autumn fruits such as papaya and fuyu come into full swing. Papaya comes into its own at this time, it’s never better to eat and reasonably priced as well. Mostly unchanged from last week with Crimson seedless being the best grape, Flavourfall the best plum and Australian pomegranates at their best. New season Navel oranges are not far away and we are near the end of the season for the imported navels.
IN VEGETABLES
Continued dry weather means the old crops from down south are now overlapping with new season crops from Queensland. For example, red capsicums are still coming from South Australia, but also from Bundaberg in central Queensland and also from the Darling Downs. This, of course, means cheaper prices. Cauliflowers, lettuce, broccoli and broccolini are all good and cheap. Imperfect zucchinis are very cheap and there is good value to be had in truss tomatoes, beans and cucumbers. Until the weather changes, I can't see any real changes in our markets.
