Dave's Market Update - 07.11.18

harris farm market update

IN FRUIT
Bananas are the best news of the week as the warmer weather in North Queensland brings increased quantities of fruit to sell. Berries are still fantastic value and there is good quality and supply of Victorian strawberriesRockmelons, honeydews and Spanish melons are all eating fantastically. The only melon not better value than last week is seedless watermelon which has firmed a little. For me, rockmelons will make a pleasant change in my fruit intake this week.

In mangoes, KPs are a little dearer but this Katherine fruit we have in the shops this week are the best eating of the year. Papaya is still fantastic and the first of the lychees for the season are in store. All the Aussie stone fruit is starting to fall in price. White peaches are my pick of the local stone fruit, but a country mile behind the mangoes.

IN VEGETABLES
Best news in veg is the quality and prices of tomatoes. Nearly everything is good value and has eased since last week. In particular, truss tomatoes, gourmet tomatoes, petite tomatoes and the medley mix are all eating superbly and are great value. All cucumbers, beans, Dutch carrots, cabbage, fennel and iceberg lettuce are at their best. Mushrooms continue to be excellent and bunches of beetroot are just fantastic value this week. Great weather across the country is delivering superb vegetables to our stores.
